Care|ByTrokon

Gemstones: All gemstones (e.g. Agate, Jasper, Quartz etc.) used on Beads|ByTrokon are semi-precious and of very fine quality. These beads will maintain their integrity virtually forever. However, with great use a gemstone's shine may begin to fade. Nevertheless these beads can be very easily shined with a soft cloth. Rub your beads with a soft cloth every so often or as needed to maintain their shine and aesthetic integrity. If necessary a damp cloth with a small amount of mild dish soap may be used for a more thorough cleaning. Gemstones should not be exposed to salt water, chlorine, or detergents, as these agents erode the finish and shine of the stones.
Metals: All metals: such as gold, silver, copper, and brass that are used on Beads|ByTrokon are plated, unless otherwise stated. To maintain their aesthetic integrity keep away from moisture. (e.g. Water, Sweat, Oils, Lotions)

Oxidation (the bronzing of the metal) is a normal consequence of plated metals, and discoloration can be expected over time. The rate at which this happens is a reflection of how often you wear your jewelry, among other things. However, discoloration can be slowed by utilizing some of the following strategies:
  • Remove jewelry when washing hands or doing physical activity causing sweat
  • Keep jewelry in jewelry bag when not being worn
  • When wearing lotions or oils, wait until they have set in the skin before putting on jewelry
  • Clean jewelry after use with cotton swab or soft cloth
  • When wearing perfume put it on before putting on jewelry
Wood/Bone: These beads are maintained with the same methods used to clean household woods. A soft and dry polishing cloth may be used with very moderate amounts of polishing agents to maintain their shine. Be sure to test any polishers on small areas first as different agents may cause discoloration in the beads. These pieces are also very porous by nature and so caution should be taken when using moisture of any kind. Do not submerge in water.
Glass: These pieces can dull over time but can be cleaned using regular household glass cleaners with a soft and absorbent cloth. Spray the pieces and wipe them down gently with cloth to maintain their shine. A cloth dampened with soapy water may also be used to clean these beads. Wipe beads down with damp cloth and then again with a dry but soft cloth to dry them.
Leather: This type of cording should be conditioned regularly so to prevent its cracking and becoming brittle. Using a soft cloth to apply, either shoe polish, cream, or wax can be used to this end. Work the agent into the cord and then dry with a soft cloth. Be careful as to not allow agents to touch the beads used on the piece as they may react poorly.
Elastic: This is the most common cording used on Beads|ByTrokon as it is the most functional. It too however has its tips for longevity. Elastic cannot be maintained in the same way other materials can be but the way it's treated will affect its integrity. Over time opening and closing a piece (stretching the elastic), will cause it to expand, getting to a point where the piece may fit loosely. This is natural after great amounts of use but in order to prolong this happening use the following tips:
  • Do not stretch elastic further than necessary to put on piece.
  • Do not allow elastic to spend long amounts of time expanded/stretched passed its resting size.
  • Do not pull at, play, or fiddle with elastic.
